The problem with sugar is that it is a hidden ingredient in a bunch of foods! Foods that you may think are healthy actually have a bunch of sugar in them. For example, yogurt seems to be healthy. The problem is that yogurt often has a lot of added sugar in it.
According to the Mayo Clinic the recommended maximum amount of sugar is 48 grams a day. To put it in perspective let’s say this is what you eat for breakfast, one yogurt that has 18 grams of added sugar, a bowl of honey nut cheerios has 12 grams of added sugar, One cup of 2% milk has 13 grams of added sugar, and coffee creamer that has 5 grams of added sugar. That adds up to 48 grams of sugar just for breakfast!
The World Health Organization (WHO) stated that, “cancer is often preventable through lifestyle choices.” The WHO also stated that sugar is cancer’s favorite food. Knowing that sugar is cancer’s favorite food it is important to know what foods have added sugar in them and to learn how to eat healthy for life.
It is not uncommon for you to be addicted to sugar and not even realize it. Sugar causes cravings, then you have to satisfy your sugar craving. So, how can you start on a better path? First, you need to realize where your sugar intake is coming from.Take a look at nutrition labels to see how many grams of added sugar is in the product. There may be hidden sugars in the ingredients list that end in -ose. The problem with some foods is that what you may think is super healthy may be filled with sugar. One big culprit is beverages that may be labeled as “natural” and appear to be healthier than pop. The problem is that “natural” drinks may still have 25-35 grams of added sugar! That is not a healthy alternative.
Second, you need to ensure you do not keep buying the same foods with all the added sugar. Third, you need to either finish the foods that you have or get rid of those foods with all the added sugar.
